David Nicholson

Self employed journalist, writer, broadcaster and agency director, David is a graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge University, where he studied English Literature.

From his office in North London, David writes about business, finance, property, sport, travel, IT, environment and politics. He does not write about cars or fashion.

He is a regular contributor to The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, many UK and international papers, magazines and websites. He has also authored several business and travel books.

David’s criteria for taking on work is that it should be stimulating, well paid and preferably involve travel and fine dining, but this is negotiable.

Rebekah Law

A journalist and researcher at, Rebekah graduated with an MPhil in History from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University.

With a background in sports, property, business and feature writing, Rebekah covers a range of subjects including energy, politics, property, business, environment, sport and travel. She has contributed to publications on Coca-Cola, IBM, ThyssenKrupp AG and Brazil’s oil industry.

From books to case studies, magazine articles to SEO features, she has written for a variety of publications and businesses including the Guardian and Imperial College London.

Most recently she has discovered a penchant for restaurant reviews and travel writing from warmer climes. Rebekah particularly enjoys the ‘research’ involved in these commissions.

Marianne Gray

Journalist and PR

Marianne Gray was educated in South Africa, France, Greece and the UK and is a London-based film journalist and broadcaster, writing celebrity interviews, travel and lifestyle stories for international publications.

She has written acclaimed biographies of French actors Gerard Depardieu and Jeanne Moreau (Little Brown), teaches journalism at The London School of Publishing and is PR & Marketing Director for Peckhamplex, London’s only independent multiplex.

Former president of the British Critics’ Circle, she is on the committee of the 2013 Critics’ Circle Centenary Awards. Most recently, Marianne has begun teaching a 'Writing for Business' course at City University in London.

Marianne started The North London Self Employed Luncheon Club in 1983 as freelancers were seldom invited to business lunches. Over the years, all kinds of nefarious links, business and personal, have emerged from these protracted, boozy, excellent lunches for the self-employed.

Chris Downer

Writer and Researcher

Chris is a writer and researcher at He graduated from Selwyn College, Cambridge in 2007 with a degree in English Literature. Before starting work as a freelance journalist, he spent three years teaching English Literature at a secondary school in Kent. In 2010 Chris went back to university, studying for a Master’s degree in modern and contemporary literature at UCL.

Chris is working on business publications that focus on the power industry in the Middle East. He also has experience in travel journalism and writing on recycling and energy topics. He enjoys reading and writing about a wide range of subjects, including books, films and modern culture, as well as food, drink and sport.
